Flying into New York

Toronto Island airport only flies direct to Newak airport, are there any downside to arriving at Newak as opposed to JFK, etc? I don't think it really matters because at the end of the day I still end up in Manhattan.

Not really. Just take the train and it's pretty fast into the city.

Traffic is a bitch either way. Difference of tolls I believe the GWB and Lincoln tunnel are paid only inbound to manhattan whereas coming from queens and brooklyn tolls are split both ways. Have a safe trip!

Thanks. I didn't think it would matter, I'll look into the train thing.

I recommend the train if you will be going from newark to manhattan at rush hour. The tunnel traffic can suck - and take an hour all by itself. Oh... and if the weather is bad, Newark is more prone to being fogged in/shut down. For whatever reason sometimes newark will be closed/major delay due to fog - and jfk will be operating at least somewhat.

When I fly commercially ... it's my New York Metro airport of choice.

i did this once coming back from a trip and took some shared van into the city there was a poor traveler in the van, a female australian, who was headed to a hostel, who tried to pick me up. i fended her off but was left with a disturbing aftertaste of guilt other than that it was an ok option for getting into the city. late night no rush hour traffic

Take the train ... or hire a driver.
