TV: watch it or not?

Thread Starter
I haven't watched tv in several months. The merest snif of anything celebrity or Berlusconi-related started provoking in me the urge to vomit copiously. I get my news from various web sources and colleagues and friends who suggest interest worthy news items to chase up. Several friends don't even have a tv. The only reason I keep mine is to watch DVDs. I find my life is not diminished one iota by not watching the moronic tv output of this country. Obviously this is a binary poll. Included in the watching of tv is watching on the net, obviously. Edit: I include terrestrial, cable, & satellite within this definition.

My answer is yes - YouTube and videos - I do not watch livestream or cable/satellite TV, however.

There are very few shows I still watch, most of them are either old shows that I never watched while they were on the air or are downloads. I think the only show I watch consistently on a TV set is Top Chef.

I love TV, nothing better (well there is heh )

I had gotten to where I only watched sports and a couple of favorite shows (Mad Men, Breaking Bad), but then the lady of the house switched us to digital cable with On Demand and I find myself wasting a lot more time watching thing like 30 Rock and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which I had always liked but had never made appointments for.

There's a few shows I watch on HBO and Bravo. Sometimes I catch a movie too. Not much else.

Since I have a high speed internet connection, I rarely use my TV to watch any kind of channels.

I watch House and a few documentaries. I'm a little behind on both.

Every now and then we get one of these threads with some asshole trying to prove to the world how interesting he is because he doesn't watch television. Sorry bro, not watching tv does not make you an interesting person.

^^Yes, I was the latest asshole to make a similar thread. I'm not interesting though. We sold our TV recently, I'll just use the internet if there's some show i must watch. I'd watch it more if there was more shows I could get into, none seem appealing to me though.

Got rid of my TV set about 10 years ago....can't stand the commercials, programming is shit, cable channels are garbage, the news are worthless. Instead I am in control of what I watch...renting DVD's, hulu, Reuters

My favorite is when there's a discussion thread regarding TV and some asshole makes sure to chime in about how glad he is that he "doesn't even own a TV." EDIT: obviously this thread is exempt from that, as whether or not we watch TV is the topic. I'm talking about "favorite tv show" type threads.

I have been watching a lot more TV than I ever have lately. The availability of shows on the internet (hulu, etc) has easily doubled my watching over the past couple of years. Also allows me to try out shows I would not normally have time to watch/care about.

I don't even own a TV! But I read styleforum, so I am much, much less interesting than normal people.

Meh. 99% of the shit on tv IS unwatchable, and I'm not trying to prove how interesting I am in saying this. I watch lots of movies, including what a lot of people would think are dumb movies, but reality TV and all that other crap makes me want to gouge my eyes out. The money I save on cable can go towards blu-rays.
