Want to switch over to a double bladed saftey razor - Page 2

Every time I see a thread like this it reminds me that I want to purchase a safety razor. This is due to financial reasons so I can purchase a bunch of blades from eBay for a mere pittance compared to the Mach 3 replacements which Gillette gouges me on. However, I absolutely detest shaving. I hate it so very much even though some people they claim they find it relaxing to get some nice shaving soap and work up a lather. I don't get razor bumps or ingrown hairs and the idea of spending even more time shaving because I have to take extra care vs. running the Mach 3 any which way and being done with it in a jiffy is so unappealing to me. *sigh*

You can shave just as fast with a DE theoretically, but you'll probably find that you don't want to.

Would not advise this:
the likelihood of damage
increases greatly.

Nah. I've done down and dirty quickshaves when I've been in a hurry, once pass, just as fast as using a Mach 3 and the shave is just as good. Spending a little time though and doing two passes is what gets you that baby butt smooth shave.

Yeah, straights (razors) just scare me a little. And to be honest i've sort of stopped using my DE at this point. I tried it for a few months but my routine now is to use it for the first WTG pass just to clear most of the brush away and then I do my XTG and AGT with a normal 2 bladed razor or my mach 3. The first pass with the cheap sharp DE blades just gives me much more life to the expensive mach 3 blades. It's doing all the XTG+ATG with the DE and all the angles and concentration that seems to not be worth it to me.
