Ever find yourself ridiculously overdressed? to the point of being inappropriate?

Once you get bitten by the bug, you always want to be dressed up. But is there a lashback?

For example, your friends are sitting around for a NFL game, and you show up with your monocle and ticket pocket, while they are in jeans/tees. Sure, you have style. But, at some point, do you look ridiculous in your longwings while they are in Eccos?

IF you're the ONLY guy in a suit, are you the douche bag who is trying too hard (You can't be ON all the time, can you?), or the only guy with "style"? It seems like a fine line b/w the two.

this never happens to me. on a day to day basis, i never go to the point of dressing to the nines. like a pocket square and such. i do have good pants on or jeans, maybe a good shirt. but that is about it.

I've been embarrassed only once. On my 21st birthday some friends took me out bar-hopping in Silverlake. First we went to an upscale place called the New York Company, and got fairly crocked. Then suddenly I found myself inside the One Way, an S&M leather bar complete with black walls, dim red lights and chain link fences. And there I was, dressed in a blazing bright red cashmere v-neck sweater, crisp white OCBD and pants, and brand new white sneakers. The entire bar turned and stared, half of them laughing and the other half frowning like someone had just run over their dogs.

If you go to a football party where everyone is wearing jeans and t-shirts and you are dressed in a suit with a pocket square and tie, you do not have "style." Having "style" means more than just being dressed in a suit all the time, it means being dressed well, but appropriately, and making others feel comfortable around you.

I'm going to class this evening wearing the following:

BÂ² blazer, navy flannel, 3/2, MOP buttons.
University Stripe OCBD.
Grenadine tie.
Fair Isle sweater vest.
Incotex Chinos.
J&M Aristocraft Tassle Loafers.

Granted, I have a legitimate reason to be dressed as such; we will be attending Greek awards immediately following class.

I went directly from a wedding to a punk show. I was attired in a linen suit with tie and pocket square. I think I made a dashing presence and it didn't stop me from working my way to the front of the crowd and moshing it up.

I live in a culturally backward city and hang out with backward friends. As such I am ridiculed for wearing even an unstructured sport coat to the bar, even if it's a somewhat upscale place. However, I have a lot more game when I feel good about how I look, and women respond positively as well. Also, a sport coat is a damn functional piece of clothing.

I've worn a suit and tie to a Monday night football game as well as several basketball games. I didn't have time to change clothes after work. Being dressed in a suit for an NFL game and the other games didn't bother me at all.

Um, I think the OPs friends were sitting around in someone's basement watching the game on television. Different deal. Wearing a suit there would be bothersome.
