What can you tell me about handwriting

I want to improve mine. Can someone break it down for me? What study systems are there and what books are popular. I want to realistically learn a neat looking but efficient writing style, and maybe if I have time practice the Spencerian fancy font.

Start writing with a fountain pen.

For Spencerian, you'll need a dip pen with a special nib. Years ago before the internet I looked into this. I learned copperplate but never followed up with Spencerian.

A few tips I've heard in the past:

Don't press too hard.
Be conscious of the letters/words you are writing.
Move your whole arm across the page as you write (not just the wrist), you'll be more fluid that way. Invest in a fountain pen; it'll help you stay focussed on what you are writing.

use handwriting when you use a computer. some people thought my handwritings are those of a doc writing prescriptions ..

Here are some online manuals.

We used Palmer in Boston, but I know other places had different preferences.
