Get tired a lot faster during winter...what to do?

When the cold weather begins to come around, I always end up getting tired throughout the day. I get tired like I'm going to fall asleep by around 2 to 3 in the afternoon. I eat a healthy diet, exercise, get enough sleep and drink enough water...what could be causing this unusual exhaustion? I've noticed it over the past 2-3 years(basically since I started college bc I have classes until about 6 or 7). During the Spring, Summer, and Fall months I don't get tired till around 10PM. I'm still about 15 lbs overweight but that shouldn't be a major problem and I prefer not to drink coffee throughout the day to stay alert, because I've gotten addicted to caffeine in the past.

Supplement with vitamin D... I assume in NJ you are required to bundle up more so you see less and less sunlight.

Are you, by any chance, a bear?

Move south, young man.

The cold weather of winter will make you tired. Your body has to burn more calories to stay warm. My morning workout declines in the winter, when its usually in the mid 30s to low 40s outside when I run.

Me too. And I have it bad. Summer just slays me-- I don't know whether it's psychological, or physical, but some combination of bright light and heat just knocks me on my arse. In winter, I can go all day long on six hours of sleep per night as long as I don't have to hang out somewhere the thermostat is cranked up. I'd love to know how to mitigate this summertime suffering.

I have it the opposite way: winter mileage is far easier than summer mileage. That said, summer mileage tend to be mid-upper-70's and oppressive humidity, and my winter mileage tends to be 40s - 50s.

I enjoy fall and winter more but I get more easily tired then. It must have something to do with burning more calories to keep warm, having fewer daylight hours, and so on.

Do you travel north for the summer? I'm not sure if it's ever been 70 in Houston during the summer. Houston = Hell

Sounds like SAD. Take vitamin D and fish oil, and try to get sunlight when possible. Also speak w/ your doctor about melatonin if you struggle to get good sleep.

You're right, I'm thinking 77-79 or so, and I usually run well before sunup. After sunrise, it's a hellish ordeal.
