Is this child abuse or neglect? - Page 3

If the kid improves, the checks stop coming. I know the welfare system is full of wrong-headed incentives, but this one is particularly perverse.

how do you know this family?

Good for you, thetieguy. You did good in calling the authorities. I too, hope it turns out for the best.

Based on these facts, there is no way these kids get taken away from their parents. Nor should they be. Having worked in child welfare before, I can tell you without a doubt that even awful parents are worse than the nightmare that is foster care. Sucks for these kids, but unless the parents are severely abusive or serial molesters, you wouldn't be doing them any favors by getting the state to break up their home.

They don't close the front door during the summer and the dog ran out and got hit by a car. They also dont put trash abgs in cans. They toss the bags in the yard. One day the other dog got into a bag of trash and got its mouth stuck in an empty bag of pepperidge farm cookies and choked to death. The dogs they have now poop and pee in their beds but the agency I called didnt care about that.

So CPS and the cops came to their house yesterday. They asked some questions and looked around and didn't find anything so they left. How much can you find in one visit? If we had any justice, these people wouldn't have these kids. I did what I could I just feel sorry for these piece of shit parents. They were on state aid when they had no kids so I guess it was a good idea to have 2 kids and abuse the system. I guess its also good to ignore them, yell at them, use the kids money to buy video games, be a sex offender, let your kid see you having sex with another man, let them run around barefoot in a shitty neighborhood, have them out at 10pm on a school night and so much more. What fucking piece of shit parents.

the cops just left? this is pretty sad.

It really is the flaw of the system It's a big tradeoff, having the familiarity of the family (albeit a shitty family), or be thrown into a similarly shitty foster care system. The police can't stay and snoop around for a week to observe everything you have observed TTG, they can just show up and get a preliminary impression and that's about it. I hope your well-intentioned endeavor turns out for the best, these kids IMO need to be taken away. I must agree though that the super-impressionable age of these children has already passed, so reversing their behavior that has been imposed upon them by their family life will be hard, maybe impossible, to reverse.

Like I said earlier, knowing what I know about foster care, I would leave a kid in any home where he's being fed and not being molested before I would put him in foster care. The only exception I would make is where the kids' actual family (grandparents or aunt) are willing to take care of him. There are good foster parents, of course. But for every caring person filled with love and care for poor kids, there are greedy folks looking to make a quick buck who aren't prepared to take care of the kids and don't care about them in the least.

I worked in an emergency children's shelter and heard all kinds of horrible stories. Invariably, the worst abuses happened to kids who came in from foster care.

Since they have no income coming in and can't get the boys anything for Christmas, someone gave them $100 to buy gifts for the kids and he took the money and used some of it for himself. Case closed.

Even though we just had a baby, we are going to buy a few things for them for Christmas.
