Ebay death in the family excuse - Page 2

yup years ago someone used the death excuse. I searched all his feedback and found from about 1 year prior to my sale people were saying, "shipment took forever but seller had death in family so I didn't leave negative feedback"

Seller would not ship until dispute was filed, I left negative feedback and called him a liar about the death. So he left me negative feedback even though I paid immediately. Im glad they changed that rule, that was my only neg feedback I got and I did nothing wrong.

I've gotten that excuse twice, and both times it was fishy. I have actually used that excuse once myself, only it wasn't an excuse. I have found that, on the rare occasions that I drop the ball as a seller (shipping a couple days late, et cetera), if I completely own up to my mistake, admit I have no excuse, and apologize, people are usually pretty cool about it. On those occasions, I ask people to consider leaving *no* feedback, as opposed to negative feedback. I have yet to have this request refused. The old adage about honesty being the best policy is usually true.

i got the family emergency excuse recently on a pair of oxfords I sold on ebay... turns out the buyer bought and paid for a different pair of oxfords the day after winning my auction

I'd just take the seller's explanation at face value without doubting too much.

+1 I've only used it once, and it was the truth.
