Definitely EG for two main reasons:

1) I'm a classicist at heart.

2) They are more comfortable then any other shoes for me.

Interesting to note about EG's leathers as they seem fine to me. Lobb's seem to retain their freshness and prevent creasing a bit better, but I wouldn't say I'm disappointed in EG's leather quality.

i dont know what the dealio is with people thinking lobb leathers is better than EGs, i would say they are like apples and oranges as EGs are crust leathers hand polished while lobbs are some sort of dyed. the EGs leathers are a bit thicker across the board and have a heavier feel to the whole shoe in hand compared to lobbs. im not fond of the 7000/8000/8695 lasts while the EG 82 and 888 are just exquisite.

I really like the leather and shape of my Berluti Club shoes. My EG cap toes on the 888 last have a similar tapered look that I like very much. I currently do not own a pair of JLP shoes, but they are on my list to add to my collection.

DW has been kind enough to build a pair of wingtip oxfords for me in a similar tapered style, and I can't wait to see them when they are done (months from now).

My EG cap toe is black and very appropriate for business attire. My Berluti's are a cacao colored whole cut that I can were with jeans, or grey slacks. So I feel each has its place.

I will probably wear the bespoke shoes with everything (just because I can).

Generally I prefer the shape and style of EG but the skins and colour of Lobbs appeal to me more. Once in a while Lobb gets it right with shoes like the Jermyn2/vale

I have and like all three. I think EG is a bit better than Lobb and I prefer the EG lasts. I think of EG and Lobb as classic shoes. I think Berluti is a different animal altogether. I wear them for clubbing and general nightlife. I have found my Berlutis holding up very well despite the thinner leather on some models.

I do think EG is the best deal and Berlutis have gotten very pricey for what they are.

<gulp> I agree with every word of this. Except the clubbing part, I don't go to clubs and I am scared that Af does.

Well clubbing is a rare event for me these days-usually dinner with friends at a place that might resemble a club after hours, more around live music versus dancing. I'm not Tiger Woods or anything.

Their antiquing and the 3 eyelet wholecut are what is best about Berluti. But fit is an issue for me (asymmetric feet). So I've found alternatives.

Scafora has a brown 3 eyelet wholecut with beautiful antiquing which he will make bespoke for about 30% more than Berluti RTW.

Corthay has fantastic coloring services and is willing to make you their RTW lines in different sizes.

Ha! Strange how that statement would have made no sense a month ago.

Anyway, my take:

JL - really pretty shoes especially in the shop, but are a bit 'hard' for me. Takes longer for me to get comfortable in my JLs than other brands. Lasts are hit and miss - I like the 8000. Finishing is excellent.

Berluti - only tried on in store but my boss has a gaudy collection (even the horrid "stitched" style and multi-color monstrosities). Lasts can be quite nice, patina of course is ridiculous, but is the go to shoe if you want girls to comment on your overpriced shoes. I only ever get comments for my JL 2007 St. Crispins in Green Museum..

EG - sublime fit, great lasts (888 is perfection), leathers have been fine for me, holds a shine like nothing else! I pamper my EGs more than my Lobbs!

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone know when the next EG winter sale will start??

I like the 888 last a lot but the 202 is also quite nice, at least for my feet.

I prefer Vass as well. Also, if can get to Vienna, Balint is Vass's equal or better.
