I've got a thing tonight, and was wondering about something. I got two suits, a navy 3-button and a dark gray 2-button. The navy is not here right now its in my closet at home (I am at school). I dont want to go with a full suit tonight, but was wondering if I could wear the gray jacket with jeans and a nice shirt. I also have a corduroy jacket but its not as dressy obviously.

Would this work or should I forgo a jacket all together for a sweater?
Ive heard that a suit jacket alone is not a great idea, unless its navy.

Thanks.

I've done it with a gray suit jacket when the pants wore out. As long as it's not conspicuously unsolid, I think you can get away with it. But hey, what do I know.

Thanks guys, thankfully this is a solid coat so I think I have something brewing here laid out on my bed, not sure about the jeans though. I am afraid that jeans + tie = math teacher a la boy meets world

Go with the sweater, and put a tie on if you're trying to dress up.
