Magnoli Clothiers - Page 2

Oh, wow, good old Indy Magnoli. First saw him on IndyGear a few years back, then on Fedora Lounge, and now here. All the stuff I've seen him wear (and the stuff he made) has been pretty top notch in my experience.

You can see folds in the shoes on the magnoli website. The leather looks cheap. Also the indy boots are 375 or whatnot, which for that price, I might as well go with the Alden 405's, which are the boots harrison ford wore in all the movies.

I had some shoes made through Magnoli. They're perfectly fine.

Can any give me an idea of the quality of Magnoli's workmanship. Does he do it himself or outsource it?

What I'd like to have made are copies of Buzz Rickson/Big Yank, etc. chambray work shirts.
I believe that Magnoli outsources his work, but he keeps close tabs on it to make sure it meets his quality standards. I know that a couple of years ago, some customers complained that one of his Casino Royale ties was made with incorrect dimensions, so Magnoli created a second version of it with the correct width.

I've only bought some ties from his site, but they look & feel amazing and are some of the best ties in my collection. I'll definitely continue to shop from him, & hope to eventually order Quantum & Royale suits.

I'm sorry but i agree with absolutely nothing of what you've said there. IF you can afford to plonk $500 on a suit, you can afford to use B&S or eBay and get something half decent. I ordered a jacket from him, took 8 weeks for it, and it was obviously not what i ordered. then another 8 weeks, again, not what i ordered. then out of the blue an unsolicited DHL parcel arrives from india from Magnoli, and its still not what i ordered. Buyer Beware; Maybe he's ok for ties and stuff like that, but MY GOD stay away if you want something done well, and made well. I asked for a 13oz flannel, it felt like the cheap hopsack you used to buy potatoes in, and you could almost see through it. Clearly not 13oz. not on any of the three. AND his "Quantum" suits look NOTHING like a Tom Ford recreation. All the OBVIOUS details are missing (roped shoulders, lapel shape, pockets etc). So you're essentially buying MTM (well, when i did MTM, the measurements the jacket was made to were clearly not the ones i submitted.) from Hugo Boss or men's warehouse. Worst $350 I ever spent.

The devil is truly in the details.

Thinking about it, he's not the guy I want anyway.

I want a shirt with details.

I can source the fabric thanks to the help of some of the members here.

But, I want the Union Special stitiching as well.

I've asked the guy over at K&T H MFG (through a Japanese proxy I use) whether he does custom work.

See what happens.

You supply him with the details and the photos, he'll supply the shirt and a good one at that. He's done exceptional work for a great many people over many years now.

Three words if you want success with Magnoli: Specificity, Patience and Funds. Be prepared for mistakes (funding), drafting patterns and sourcing materials takes time (patience), and be so specific a chimp could make the shirt instead.
