You could run to almost any supermarket and purchase a bottle of green tea for about a dollar, but that would be a huge mistake. Why not opt to spend a quarter million percent more for "super premium" green tea?

Packaged like a fine wine, Royal Blue Tea is offering a limited time, high-end green tea for an astounding $2,500 per bottle. Apparently the leaves are hand picked (or something like that) and presumably infused with about $2,499 worth of champagne and truffle oil. Otherwise we're assuming it would be hard to justify the outrageous price tag. Look this sort of thing takes very little money to invent, and people with more money than they know what to do with will buy it. It's basically free money for the people who created it, if you don't like this idea, stop giving them free publicity. Advertising is the only real cost.

This forum has some people wealthy enough to buy this garbage.

Calling it "hand-picked" means hardly anything for $2,500. I drink high grade green tea that is hand-picked and hand rolled and oh so much more and it is usually less than $50 for 50 grams. I need more details...

There are teas out there that are not handpicked?

Everytime I think 'tea' I get this mental image of hordes of Indian women with baskets on their backs handpicking tea leaves.

Or have I been lied to?

I never got the obcession with truffle oil. Its not like its expensive. 90% of truffle oil isnt even made from truffles, just synthetic and organic **** that kinda smells like truffles. Sounds yummy.

There are some very rare varieties of teas in China that go for much more. They taste like dirt though, can't remember what type they're called...

Most bagged tea you buy from the store and crappy loose leaf is picked by machine. You will notice a lot of twigs and other non-tea leaf items in this tea. In tea bags you buy from the store even "green tea" looks brown. That is because the twigs and everything else are grounded up with the tea. You can also taste how terrible it is (I am thinking of Stash right now--disgusting). A fine loose leaf tea will be a dark, rich, green color and contain only rolled tea leaves (the rolling can be done by hand or machine). Also, the best tea leaves are those on the young buds at the very top, which are best picked by hand and typically the leaves are smaller. Here is a tea picking machine: It is basically "buzzing" off the top, including whatever varmints, twigs or anything else resides there.

Well, I know Tieguanyin (an Oolong that gets better with repeated brewings) is $3,000 per kilo. But anything that comes in a bottle better have some alcohol.

It takes very little, by weight, of tea to make a bottle's worth. Doing the math on the cost of the tea to make the liquid in the bottle would be interesting.

(Without actually having looked at the link), this strikes me as all hype and I cannot imagine anyone serious about tea ever humoring such an idea.

Indeed. Brings to mind the $10,000 dishes you can get at some fancy restaurants that include gold shavings.
