Where to spend NYE in London

I'll be with my sister (25) ... so probably a romantic dinner or a night club are out... Anybody have any good suggestions for a good place to spend New Years Eve in London? We're staying at the Trafalgar. I assume London is similar to Chicago inasmuch as Cabs can be difficult to procure.

A lot of people do the fireworks on the Thames at the London eye. I've heard that when the riverbank gets too full the cops will turn people away so keep that in mind. Bit like Times square or any other NYE fireworks show if thats your thing.

Otherwise, most venues from pubs to clubs sell tickets beforehand. I would suggest calling the concierge at your hotel and asking him to set up tickets for a recommended venue.

London is plagued with the same thing as most big cities with hoardes of people descending on it for NYE, making bars too packed and transportation impossible.

Most clubs will be selling entrance at extortionate fees not to mention drinks - but bearing that in mind, stay within central so you don't have to pay for a cab. Public transport will be free until whatever time they shut..extra hour or so.

Pick up a TimeOut for starters - there's lots to do after the fireworks even if you pub hop centrally or do a circuituous route from embankment, over the bridge towards waterloo, southbank towards london bridge. Go to Shoreditch/Hoxton and spitalfields/brick lane for drinks too, great lil rambuctious drink holes with interesting people.

These are my kinds of places. I was looking at the bar in the hotel.. I think it was mentioned in Time Out. Have you ever been to the Rockwell?

No, unless it was called something before - places tend to flip over quite often.

check out: bar kick on shoreditch high street - there is also some great mens shops on rivington and one called present-london on shoreditch high a few blocks towards liverpool street. have a flat white and browse; save money for a pair of custom house x trickers.

also, on sundays there's spitalfields market, cross over commerical street and go to the upmarket and a few other markets have sprung up usually on the sunday. tonnes of watering holes and cool places to lounge about.

ps - tell them you are canadian.
