Pure handmade cashmere. Worth EVERY penny. And then some.

The shedding is a result of too short cashmere fibers being used to make the yarn, that in turn was knitted and became your sweater.

Usually RL's PL line has much higher minimum quality specifications for cashmere fiber than their blue line, so I'm surprised you're running into the problem. However I'm not totally surprised, because nearly all cashmere sweaters sold today are being made from Chinese produced yarn. The label might say Made in Scotland, Italy, or elsewhere, but that just means the sweater was knit and assembled in those other countries. It's still Chinese yarn.

As for what you can do about it, if it bothers you (and for what RLPL costs, it would bother me) the only answer is to return it. The shedding will get worse not better as the sweater is worn and washed or dry cleaned.

Wow

Is anyone else noticing this with their RLPL cable knit cashmere sweaters?

I had this issue with my Polo 100% silk sweater. I promptly returned the sweater to store...

Fret not my friend. Wear the sweater inside out thereby accomplishing two things. first of all everyone (that is not a RL Sales associate that is) will know that its RLPL.

Second of all the shedding will happen on the outside and will not get your shirt messy.

I wish it was funny. These fibers are inhaled and cling to lung and throat tissue the same way they cling to shirt fabrics. Just one more benefit of Chinese trade.

The RLPL I have was made in Italy but I can't imagine RL using inferior cashmere since quality is what the line is based on.

I dunno, I guess I will call an RL store today to see what they can do or at least tell me what the issue is...

It happens. All my Polo sweaters are fuzzy now. It's very disappointing, but do listen to what AThingForCashmere says. For cashmere, "Made in China of Italian Yarn" is better than "Made in Italy of Chinese Yarn".

I've just explained what the issue is. Your sweater was knit and assembled in Italy, from Chinese yarn. Longer cashmere fibers don't shed. Your sweater does.

Don't count on the store fessing up to this, or knowing what a "Made in Italy" label means these days. Above all else, if they claim the shedding will get better over time, they're lying to you.

True, almost always.

What's the old saying, No one ever went broke underestimating the stupidity of the American public, or something to that effect.

I wonder how much time he'll waste combing his sweater, before he realizes it's making the shedding worse not better. Eventually he's going to look like Kurt Cobain in his emo sweater.

Sigh... these "fuzzies" happened to an Attolini sweater I got on eBay. After two wears, the underarm part started pilling.
