I think I have seen one of those setups. It looks like a slow drip mechanism through tons of tubing.

Blue Bottle instructions for their New Orleans iced. I used a french press and then filtered what came out after steeping 24 hrs. through a second filter. I did not add the sweetener since it shortens the time the concentrate will keep.

Not so happy with the Burundi Dusangirijambo. It placed 2nd at the CoE. I've had the CoE winer recently and it was much better. This one is a bit sour and tastes oddly of liquorice. The CoE winner was roasted a bit darker (I've posted a picture), so that may be one variable that I preferred.

Just curious why you think CoE is BS? It has introduced some very interesting coffees to the world, like Gesha.

Licorice is not an uncommon flavor note. I guess it depends on how well balanced it is with the other flavors in the coffee.

I think ultimately it is a marketing tool, a way to charge astronomical prices for in a lot of cases beans that are just ok, or marginally better than other consistently great stuff. Sure Gesha is great stuff, but they have been throwing around their CoE seal way too willy-nilly if you ask me. Plus, they have all of these roasting and grinding standards for their seal of approval, however individual roasters are roasting the stuff their own way before you get to try it anyway so it could come out totally different than what was branded as being so excellent.

So I am looking for a new grinder and I am going crazy. I don't want to spend a ton of money and will only use it for french press. I was looking at the Baratza Encore, but people say it seizes up when trying to grind darker, oilier beans, which I use sometimes. I have a Virtuoso at home that is ok, but I would like something a bit cheaper, and perhaps a smaller footprint for work. Is there anything out there that can satisfy this?

Perhaps some sort of hand grinder? Could cut the cost down quite a bit, especially if you're only grinding for single-serving french press.

They generally suck for coarser grinds unless you spend the same amount of money as a decent electric grinder.

Huh, didn't know that.

Honestly, it does seem like getting a good coarse grind is much harder than a good finer grind.
