Turning Point: Fiat Must Decide if Alfa Romeo Gets New Product or Fades Away
2009-alfa-romeo-159.jpg
Marchionne has ordered a strategic review of the sporty brand which, according to some anonymous sources speaking with Automotive News Europe, has been losing between 200 million and 400 million euros per year for the past decade. With sales half what they were in the year 2000, Marchionne is facing a tough decision on the future of the brand. In the next few months, he will have to decide whether Alfa gets one more chance courtesy of parent company Fiat's recent merger with Chrysler or whether Fiat will halt investment in the brand after the now-delayed launch of the 147 replacement, now known as the Giullietta.
This was the only good thing that could have come of that merger. If Alfa has no chance of coming, then I'm going to ask that FIAT/Chrysler give me my loan/bailout back.

From the article,

replace the aging 159 and recently-canceled 166 D- and E-segment sedans with new models based on Chrysler platforms and built in North America
You know what, if they consider making Alfa's on the Chrysler platform or merge Alfa and Dodge, I would rather see Alfa just go down with its head up. No need to bring a charismatic Alfa down with Chrysler "Americanized Luxury".

+1

There's enough bastardized cult car models that lost their original DNA.

I was really hoping to see some Alfa's over here, not a Chrysler with an Alfa badge on it. It would be a shame to see them go, but better than becoming another Jag and ending up and American influenced trainwreck.

This is horrible news... But really, who didn't expect something like this?

I too was looking forward to seeing some of their cars over here. This is very sad news.

Outside of the 8C, I can honestly say I'm rather indifferent. Wish it wasn't the case, but I just don't have much interest in a FWD Italian.

They are working on a replacement for the 166 and rumors are it has RWD again.

I think the MiTo is pretty cool compact compared to a MINI.

Also as said earlier, the 166 is being replaced with a 169, which should look something like the concept:

Hopefully they don't come out with an SUV (the other concept):
