Deodorant causing shirt-staining - Page 2

What a douche. And to not be a douche myself, Crystal Stick has worked great for me. I still sweat like a pig, but it doesn't smell. Though I think I did smell after a hard day of working outside in the Georgia summer humidity, but I'm not sure anything can stop that.

It does seem to help a little bit for me...but be prepared for some serious chafing if you shave. And to the guys who don't use antiperspirant: Don't you find that you sweat a lot with just a deodorant? (Antiperspirants stop sweating, whereas deodorants just mask the smell, right?)

+1 for the Crystal Stick. It toally works, there's no stain, and you don't have to deal with some focus group's idea what smells good.

There is a difference between deodorant and antiperspirant. First one just controls the smell but does not control sweating; the second controls your sweating with aluminum ingredients and can also mask the smell. It is easier to find a deodorant that won't permanently stain your t shirts, but I have yet to find a miracle antiperspirant that does not permanently discolor your t shirts over time. Some are worse than others.
I have tried baking soda and vinegar home tricks to remove the yellow staining, but they are not effective. I noticed that gray colored t shirts are the best at masking yellow stains from the aluminum.

What I do now is buy a ton of cheaper t shirts like Hanes and wear the expensive graphic Ts over them. Then, I never wear that same t shirt more than once before laundry time. It helps to slow down staining.

I had the same problem with shirts getting stained. I'll throw in for drysol. Basically you apply it at night and sleep with it on (can be a bit uncomfortable at first). Then in the morning you wash off any residue and you don't sweat for like 3 days. No staining, no sweating, even in California summer's. It's seriously the best stuff I've tried.

Nystyle is correct, antiperspirant/deodorant are completely different things. It is the sweating that allows bacteria to grow, causing the smell. Antiperspirant blocks the pores with a chemical, deodorant masks the smell by overpowering with its own smell.

Stains are also the result of your own personal body chemistry and may not be preventable. For white cotton the most powerful (and most destructive to the fabric) is usually washing soda/oxyclean. This product really does need time to work, try loading your shirts and starting the washer then allow to soak for a day or even more.

use a deodorant, not an anti-perspirant. deodorants will not stain shirts. alum-based anti-perspirants will.
