Good movies in HD?

Got a HDTV not too long ago, and I am looking for some good movies to bring out the power of my TV. Already saw the Dark Knight and found that to be nice. Any others?

http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...=150598&page=5 for the movies I just bought and a lot of recommendations from the forum. These aren't all available in HD yet. My own selection criteria was more based on what I already had on DVD/divx, not just for HD eye candy. Also, read: http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/ I used that website to build my blu-ray shopping list. If you want a quick list, some reference quality titles are: Quantum of Solace/Casino Royale collector's edition I, Robot Star Trek TDK, which you've seen The International The Fifth Element Remastered (the first release on BR was shit) I'll be able to report back hopefully in a week or so when I get my order in on just how gorgeous these films are in HD. Unfortunately I'm stuck watching on my 24" monitor until my projector gets in sometime in January. Btw, audio is just as important.

Downloading these movies in 1080p (around 10-12gb per movie) would take away from quality I would assume?

Yes. If the downloads are only 10-12gb, they're probably less than half the size of the original movie. That means extra compression. I've never downloaded an HD movie so I can't say how well a compressed rip compares to the actual blu-ray.

Lawrence isn't on Blu-Ray yet.

Why hasn't Moon been mentioned?

There are several movies that should be, but aren't yet. It's a matter of profit optimization for most studios. Most of the really great films by David Lean haven't been released yet. Hopefully this just means they're putting in lots of time and money to restore the prints and remaster the audio for steller BR releases. Sony has been doing solid releases though so I have high hopes for Lawrence. I *think* I read 2010 for Lawrence/Zhivago, but I'm not sure.

You may wish to consider investing in a Blu-ray player and a Netflix membership ($11 a month for 1 DVD/Blu-ray out at a time) to get the most from your TV. A lot of Blu-ray players are on sale now and you can get an inexpensive HDMI cable from Monoprice.com

I'd buy a PS3 before I buy a Blu-ray player. But that forces me to buy my movies, something I really don't want to do.

This has me worried... my copy of the Dark Knight is 15gb, but the actual movie is 40gb. I may need to buy a Blu-ray player.

True, but they still look far better than DVD's.
