Since I see no topics for bands in specific I assume it is not commonplace to showcase bands you have recently gotten into and wished to see general opinion and or to share with others. So let this be the place to do that, I will start with Animals As Leaders.
I will take my description from the guy who introduced me to them.
"check it out if you haven't. it's instrumental prog metal, even if you don't like metal you will probably like it. the guy has such a great sense for melody. you can hear influences from several different genres as well, like math rock, prog rock, jazz fusion, possibly even shoegaze. he combines all this with the ever-changing time signatures of meshuggah influenced prog metal. def. one of my top 5 of 2009 now. also MANDATORY listening for fans of Bulb/Periphery etc."
