How to get food stamps?

So I don't work anymore because I went back to school, and my gf is doing the same. I figure that since we don't have jobs we qualify for food stamps. Does anybody know how to get them? I live close to City Hall. Should I just walk in and ask?

Usually there is some sort of benefits counselor that will help review your situation and let you know all the stuff you qualify for.

I am not sure if you can qualify as a full time student or not

Able bodied adults without children are generally required to engage in state approved education and training as a condition of the receipt of food stamps (recently renamed Supplemental Nutritional Assistance). A simple google search for the SNAP/food stamps program in your state will reveal the local state or county office that administers food stamp applications. Moreover, in most jurisdictions, not-for-profits assist in the application process.

While you are likely not eligible for food stamps as a f/t student, you may be eligible for work study or other work-linked educational grants. The receipt of work-study may make you eligible for food stamps.

Thankfully in most states, leeches like you are prevented from obtaining food stamps. I've got an idea: Get. a. job.

Cunning is obviously joking, this is either a reference to something or a set up for something else.

Most people who can afford to pay for college don't really need food stamps. I'm sure you can find a part time job. If International MBA students can find part time jobs when they're not studying/attending classes I'm sure you could too.

Please. I've worked full time making good money for almost 4 years since finishing college. The amount I've paid into the 'system' is more than many people pay in their entire lifetimes. I'm just trying to get a fraction of that back as I invest in the next stage of my life, a stage during which I'll be paying even more into the welfare state. Who's the bigger leech, me or the perennial food stamp recipients who can never seem to Get. a. job?

Just go to the local Post Office and tell them you want personalized stamps and how many. You will need to supply them a photo of the kind of food you want displayed on the stamp. These are more expensive than normal stamps and most people put photos of their mate or kids, but if foods your thing...go for it.

There's a small collector community for food stamps.

It's not as acceptable socially as collecting postage stamps, but guys like teh Smeagol are trying to change that.
