32-39% 'Tactical Nuclear Penguin' Beer

http://www.brewdog.com/product.php?id=46 Came out recently in the UK. I was wondering if any of you had tried it, or some sort of American equivalent. Honestly, a quickly-consumed bottle of this stuff would take the starch from the legs of even the most seasoned drinker. Unfortunately it's £30 (~$55) a bottle. I sunk a few of the 8% variation one night a couple weeks ago. Tasted like carbonated pish with a shot of ethanol injected into it, but certainly had its effects. Can't imagine what this puppy would feel like on the tongue. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/...st/8380412.stm You might have alcohol awareness boards arguing over 'Brewdog's motivation for releasing this beer, but it doesn't exactly target the homeless alcoholics and skid-marked teenagers who are looking to get utterly monstered for a couple of quid. It's certainly d for thought.

I imagine it would taste like shit, or you could get the same effect if you took a can of Guinness and float a couple shots of Vodka in it. I had a beer which had a 12% alcohol and it tasted like shit.

I agree - seems more like they are shooting for publicity more than producing quality beer. But who knows until we've tried it.

Try Kasteel Quadrupel.

I imagine this would be quite interesting. Perhaps a little like the Sam Adams Utopias?

Dogfish Head Brewery makes a 120 minute I.P.A. 20% ABV which is fantastic. Definitely heavy, syrupy almost, but a great sipping brew for a special occasion.

It's unfair to extrapolate this to all high-alcohol beers. Not one of the barley wines I've had tasted bad.

Sam Adams Utopia, which is admittedly only 27% seems popular enough, although it is a fair bit more expensive.

Gold Label Barley Wine was around the 8 percent mark, wasn't it? That stuff was fucking disgusting.

Weyerbacher "Blithering idiot" is great barley wine that comes in around 12%. Nearly all of the beers I really enjoy have a high ABV. Stoudts double IPA is around 10%, DFH 90min IPA is 9%, etc etc.. DFH 120 IPA and worldwide stout are both good beers that come in around 20% as mentioned.

Their is alot of competitiveness RE: extreme beers nowdays, enough for brewers to sacrifice the flavor profile for making a bigger beer.

I do not like high alcohol beer because it's too much like prophetic truth.
Quote:
And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.
