Where do you get your haircut?

I've been going to the same person for 7 years now at SuperCuts. I tip her well ($7) for a cheap cut ($13) but I feel like she's always in a hurry because she's so popular...as there are always people waiting for her.

I like her a lot....but I really don't think she is giving me the personal time anymore that I think I should get. Granted, yes, it is $13 cut...but I think I'm giving her more than enough tip. I mean, I can give her $25...but I don't know if that is going to change her attitude.

Either way, can somebody compare their "supercut" haircuts to one give by a barber?

Thanks.

I feel that Supercuts is more about volume than quality. If she has been cutting your hair for a while, though, maybe that's the reason she doesn't need to take as much time with it.

Redken has an academy just a few blocks from my home, where students cut your hair with instructor guidance. It's even cheaper than Supercuts, and I feel that the quality is higher in comparison. YMMV

supercuts type chains move through customers as fast as possbible because they need to see a ton of walk ins to make good money. They always want to be available and don't do a ton of big ticket things like expensive highlights and whatnot so they just rush through customers. I wouldn't go there ever. Even if the person cutting your hair is pretty good, chances are people at the academys or a nicer salon are better and at least will take a bit more time and be a little more careful as they schedule more time per cut than the cheaper places

You had better be trolling OP. The only people who should be getting their hair cut at Super Cuts are kids. I get my hair cut at Agates Omotesando. Its a fairly priced joint and the head stylist is always happy to cut my hair without an appointment (though they prefer that I schedule ahead of time). For just under 7000 JPY I get a decent amount of service too. Always a cup of tea or espresso, wash my hair twice with treatment, head and back massage, hot towel face thing, hand massage, etc. Also a cute assistant girl who always gives me the hand massage gives me "the eye" and has a cute little smile. I likes it. The whole process takes over an hour. Also when I was in the states I would drop about the same price but get a full massage after my cut but no cute assistant girl

7000 JPY? isnt that like $80 USD? a bit much for a hair cut, imo. i go to a local stylist that my ex-GF used to use. my stylist is a really sweet girl who does a good job and can hold good smalltalk. the charge is $25 for the cut and i usually tip her $10 each cut, so about $35 total. maybe more if i tip her more. i get the cut and a shampoo. appointment only. she does a good job, she's about to leave that salon but gave me her cell so i can follow her to the next place. my hair needs consistency.

Thats a bit low on the average side for a good shop. Could go to a chain place like Ash, but thats like the Japanese equivalent of going to a mall salon. Also if I really wanted to cheap out (god forbid) I could go to QB House (often found inside station, near the track) its only like 1000JPY for a cut guaranteed to make any poor salary man with a bad suit and a beer gut, jealous

You tip your barber seven dollars?!!!

I once gave mine a £2 tip and he was so shocked he gave half of it back to me.

In Japan you pay a lot for the service and presentation. They have at least 2 people take care of you during your visit, it lasts over an hour if you include the multiple shampoos and the massage, and they will do a consultation every time you come in where you can draw out how you want it to look, and the stylist sits down and talks it out with you while you decide. Rent is expensive, so the price goes up with it. They also serve complimentary drinks, should you have to wait. I pay a bit less than ratboy, about 5000 yen to see my stylist. The place I go to is in Funabashi so the rent is a hell of a lot lower than Omotesando. In Korea I got pretty much the same thing, but with a less predictable end result (because I don't speak Korean where as I do Japanese) and it was about half-price at 28,000 won. The Korean place is the fanciest salon I've ever been to. But then, everything is shockingly affordable in Korea (except buying imported designer clothing). The other nice thing is that male stylists are pretty common in Japan, hairstyling is taken really seriously and not just an unnecessary vanity, so it attracts pretty skilled people of both sexes. Also, no tipping in Asia.

I went to a salon with my cousin to get his haircut in Mumbai, India. He payed about the equivilant of $80. Even though he was getting his haircut, they took care of me as well. I got a massage and they kept on feeding me snacks and chai. I go to a Spanish barbershop about 10 min from my house. It's $15 and $3 tip from me. The barbers there spend about a half hour on my hair, just a trim and a shape up.

I've been going to the same barber for the last 11 years he knows what I want and I give $5 tip around the holidays I'll give $15.

I go to Toni&Guy, first time I have seen the same hairstylist consistently, 3 times so far. When I walk in I trust him to do whatever and it is always satisfying. I pay $45 with a $5 tip including the Shampoo/Conditioner and a beverage.

I've been going to my haircut place for 3+ years now and she charges $12 but I use to give her a $20 and told her to keep the rest. she felt bad since i go about every 10 days or so and gives me back a $5.

she takes about 15 or so minutes to cut my hair.

I go to an old school barber shop run by two old guys who tell dirty jokes and have been cutting hair for about 100 years between them. One of them is about 70 years old and has steadier hands, so he does the straight razor shaves you can get there as well. The place always smells like shaving cream and the Playboys they keep for customers to read are of the 1970s and 80s vintage. Sometimes they will give you a beer to drink while you wait on Saturday if they're feeling generous. I love that place...
