PSA: Chef's Knives

Williams-Sonoma currently has the Wustof Classic Ikon 8" cook's knife with a bonus sharpener for $99 through tomorrow. The combination on Amazon would cost @$200.

They also have the Ken Onion for Shun 6" chef's knife for $139, again significantly cheap to Amazon.

I was in a hurry, so I bought both, but will keep only one. My wife has already voted for the KO, but I'm still thinking about it.

A 6-inch chef's knife?

What's the difference between a cook's knife and a chef's knife? Does the chef's knife get paid more?

I'm not sure, but neither one has to live in a car.

I don't have to either. I'm just too much of a proud dipshit to ask if I can sleep on someone's couch. Although if I was out east, I'd be sleeping in your (gravel) driveway.

I'd let you crash in a guest room, buddy. I might make you give me a cooking (cheffing?) lesson in exchange though.

A bed is a bed....

What has been the worst part about the last week is that all of my shit is in my car, so I can't even lean my seat back when I sleep.

Not sure if the sale is still happening, but last I checked W&S also has a package deal on Calphalon pans, a 10inch and 12 inch set for $99, normal retail about $250.

Oh man, I know that exact feeling, it is the worst, makes it almost impossible to sleep soundly! Since there's only one of you in the car, can't you just move some stuff from behind you into the front seat for the night?

Whoa. No shit?! I guess not. Sorry man, that is some major suckage. I hope you have some resolution soon. Can you put your stuff in storage so you can maybe put your seat back? Or sleep in a tent at a campground or something? (OK, these are stupid ideas, but I feel terrible for you and its late and I am not thinking clearly). I would hope there was one SF member near you somewhere you could crash.

Are $100 + chef knives really necessary? I have a $10 stainless steel knife from Walmart that has never failed to cut a piece of food into multiple pieces.
