By far, the coolest thing I saw in manhattan store windows (bergdorf, zegna, etc) was dark brown suede chukka boots (leather soles), medium grey flannel trousers, and camel sweaters. really an awesome look I'd like to do on casual days for work.

recommendations for dark brown chukka boots, with leather soles? looks like there are several from crockett and jones, but difficult to determine how the toe shape will look/ not too pointy or narrow.

My #1 suggestion: Alden flex-welt.
Note: these are unlined

Go to Leffot and check out this pair:
(also comes in tan suede and snuff suede)

Choice #2: MTO from Ron Rider

These are not suede, but the 3-eyelet design from Ron is awesome:

I have the C&J for Polo version. It's awesome. It's for more "formal" wear.

I have the Alden unlined chukka for casual wear with jeans/chinos.

all good choices, but would like to find some with a sole similar to dress shoes rather than the heavy soles displayed so far-- that's what I saw in the bergdorf window, but didn't go find out more about them that day. seemed to go well with heather gray flannel trousers & sweater/ white shirt, or whatnot. Anyone own the C&J versions, for example?

Gaziano & Girling make a gorgeous Chukka boot called the Arran Since its an MTO shoe...you can choose whatever sole you desire and whatever color suede I actually ordered this exact boot but with a crepe sole http://www.thelondonlounge.net/forum...php?f=2&t=8247 Might want to contact Bespoke England (the link at the top of every page) to see if they have your chocolate suede model currently in stock or contact Tony Gaziano/Dean Girling of G&G to see if they have any RTW Arran Chukka in stock The alternative is to try Ron Rider (if you like his style of boot). If he doesn't have the exact size or style you desire...take comfort in that his turn around time for delivery on an MTO order is quite quick...and I was happy with my MTO boot order with him

C&J Tetbury - these are my go to's. Not really a Chukka.
+1 on The EG Banbury in Mink Suede on the 606.

Why don't you call C&J Tetbury "not really a chukka"?

If you checkout the official C&J website, there is a shoe called the "Chukka"

It's three-eyelet and rounder toe vs. the Tetbury, which is two-eyelet and sleeker toe.

I prefer the latter myself. I believe the Polo version is the Tetbury.

I have the C & J Chiltern. Like the Tetbury, it has a Danite sole but no storm welt. Without the storm welt and extended sole, it would be hard to tell it's not leather unless you are really looking. Incidentally, in real life, the Chiltern's toe is a moderate squared off toe, not the bulbous monstrosity that it appears in the catalogue. Also, the Franco's site has a very nice looking chocolate suede Martegani chukka.

I used to have the C&J chiltern but found it to be too rounded /casual for what i needed. The Tetbury is pretty pointy IMO. C&J has the Chukka model, as mentioned above, that is in the middle between these two and the one I like the best. I believe it is unlined.

I also found a church's version on herringshoes earlier this year that was pretty good. leather sole, tapered toe and pretty versatile. I wear it for business casual often.
