Nice Lochsa there, Godot. Always wanted to get one. They must be very hard to get now since Scott is not accepting new orders.

Thanks, I got that one used on USN site about a week after getting on the waiting list for one from Scott about 3-4 years ago. Last July, I got a call from Scott telling me my number had come up and he had my knife, but there was no problem if I wanted to change my mind. He had other people he could sell it to-no hard feelings. I gave it about a half a seconds thought and said "SEND IT TO ME

I think Scott must be bored with the Lochsa by now. I'm sure 80% of his phones calls were , "when will mine be ready" or "can I get on the list, but I want mine left handed and with a blue thumb stud ETC". Probably very few phone calls asking if he wanted to go to a ball game or go out for a drink.

Henckles folder -- made sense for me as I used to use their knives primarily in the kitchen.

Forgot who did that one. Nothing special.

I often wear one of these when it is not contravened by law. Sadly the maker has passed away. But they were convenient and had none of the drawbacks of folders, nor a fixed blade's poor carryability. He also made me a liner-lock folder in titanium with grey wood scales in the above that I carry sometimes. I used to keep a Victorinox Ranger in my day bag, but it was replaced with a Leatherman.

Have no pics of any of the custom pieces available at the moment -- some of Herb Derr's work, and the big Odin bowie hanging in its glass shadowbox over my shoulder.

We do have/had one custom knifemaker here on the forum.

I really wish I could carry my balisong with me, it's so sleek and fun to plau with. But since it's pretty damn illegal here, if I do carry, I stick to a kershaw vapor. I have a couple larger cold steel folders, but they are too large.

Sebenza's are great knives-perfectly made-they are expensive but worth it. If you pull the trigger I'd suggest the small plain version. I like mine so much, I've bought (used) two back ups in case I lose one.

I carry a small Victorinox Swiss Army knife that I received as a gift. I never would have thought I'd carry a Swiss Army knife, as I never liked anything of theirs I'd seen prior to owning this one, but it's a great little knife.

Sebenzas are great. I have a BG-42 large classic myself. I may get a back up to.

I've been out of the loop for a while on knives since I finally "finished" my collection of the knives that I "need," but for everyday carry, I usually carry a Strider SMF or an Emerson Combat Karambit.

I'm curious, why do you guys carry a pocket knife around? I can't recall being in a position where I really need a pocket knife. It's one extra thing to carry around -- why?

To cut things with; right then. I'm sure you've needed to cut things before, but you had to go walk somewhere and find a knife to do it. My grandfathers both give my dad crap about never wearing a watch and never carrying a pocket knife. They are particularly useful at Christmas when opening presents. Or opening packages you get while walking down the driveway, because you can't wait to get in the house and find scissors. Or cutting open the packaging on basically anything that you buy (particularly blister packs). Or cutting a loose thread, instead of pulling on it and your entire hem falling out. Or trimming your finger nails. Or sharpening a pencil. Occasionally for eating fruit. I have something about like this right beside me right now. A (re)gift from my father; I think he got it for graduation and then gave it to me, unused, about 25 years later. I have a few others laying about as well.

Edit - I just used this knife to cut the plastic wrap off a bottle of vitamins.

Actually, I can't think of a time that I desperately needed a knife to cut something. For letters, I stick my index finger under the flap and just open it; never got a paper cut this way. For packages, I use the ragged side of my keys; it works every time. On the other hand, I can think of a lot of problems a pocket knife would bring. For example, I live in DC, and they frown upon bringing knives into federal buildings. Having a pocket knife with me and forgetting to take it out would bring me more hassle than it's worth. But if I were to live in a different town, I might see a knife differently.
