My Neck is Killing Me

I'm going to a doctor to deal with this later (assuming they're not booked solid at the clinics) but I can't leave this place for 2 hours until my meeting is over so quick feedback is much desired. I have debilitating neck pain at the moment. Worse than I have ever had in my life. I had some pretty bad pain during h1n1, but it subsequently faded. Now it is back but much worse. It came back a couple of days ago, and today it is at the point where my left arm is literally numb (I am having trouble typing this) and I can't concentrate on anything. Most of the pain is on the left side of my neck travelling down through my shoulder into my arm. Has anyone had something like this and do you have any suggestions? I took pain killers yesterday to no effect whatsoever.

I've got a chronic neck problem caused by whiplash from an accdent 15 years ago. At first signs, I apply an overnight heating pad, hot shower, massage and that over the counter cream for muscle pain. Here's a lesson I've learned: if I don't take are of it at once, it'll get much worse to an extent of not being able to function/ drive a car/ walk etc. A good firm pillow with proper support is critical + excercise to strengthen neck muscles.

Probably because you're a V.

Any weakness in the arm? You might need an MRI.

Go Sunday mornings to Urgent Care at your local hospital. At least in Ottawa, you'll get better care than going to a family doc and there won't be a wait like in a walk-in.

I couldn't get to the doc. I'll try tomorrow. I think it might be a pinched nerve that has resulted in a ton of inflammationin my neck / shoulder because it's really only on my left side. My right arm is fine.

There are only two ways in which you can injure your neck.

Go to a doctor. . .Neuro or Ortho that works on necks. Sounds like some kind of radicular problem.

Yeah, it could be a pinched nerve or a muscle pull. Both can send pain throughout your body. I also find that a similar thing can be caused by the cold (wind coming through a window while you sleep, having both sides of the windows open in your car while you drive etc.)

Convenient thread, I just did a lot of clinch wrestling at the gym, and I can't hold my head up.

What kind of pain is it? If it's a burning pain, it's likely nerve-related.

^That is what I was told, which is why my arm went numb. It is getting a little better thanks to drugs. Yay drugs.
