Excessive cordovan crease

I am considering buying Alden's 2210 style in burgundy cordovan.

I have come across the below photos in which the shoes are very very creased, at least to my taste.

I am aware accordion-like creases are the natural result of cordovan leather that forms upon wearing, but I am trying to find out whether the ones in the below links are abnormal or not. Perhaps it could be that the owner of the shoes in the below link may have purchased a pair that does not fit well to his feet? If this much of creases is normal, then could you please tell me after how many wearings this amount of crease normally form?

That can be normal. Its not just length and width issues that can lead to too much creasing. Volume in the toe box can lead to that... No way to tell beforehand. They can crease that much after only a couple of wears depending on fit.

Awesome! I wonder who will handle the auction, Sotheby's or Christie's.

Did he wear those shoes while working out on the calf raise machine?

I'm sure riding a bicycle in them didn't help.

My NST shells look very similar to this. It's the only pair I have that has creased so profusely.

Is your NST made on Aberdeen last? There is also a Barrie version. If yours is made on Aberdeen last and if you have other Alden cordovan shoes on Aberdeen last, how does your NST compare to them in terms of the creases? Would you say that you wore the NST much more than the others?

My NSTs are on the Plaza last. I have only one pair on the Aberdeen because the last doesn't work for me, they feel fine for about an hour and hurt badly thereafter.

Thanks Jay Jay. I will appreciate if someone who owns the very same style, i.e. 2210, can comment on whether his shoes have also creased as much as this one or not.

No they don't. It depends on fit & bike riding.

I did. I don't anymore. Aberdeen doesn't fit me right, at least not in standard widths. I haven't bothered with changing widths. Mine weren't that creased.

msg, I have the NST on the barrie last, and they have not creased like this.

Shell cordovan "hinges" more than it creases. It differs from shoe to shoe on the same last even for the same person. Don't worry about it too much - if the shoes don't fit you, you'll know immediately (esp if they are narrower).
