Do you think tartan ties are appropriate for work, and what do you think about this one?

Propriety in the workplace depends what you do. Personally I love tartan wool ties but don't like silk ones, which suggests they're best worn in a more casual context (great for Christmas parties).

Very nice. Looks more like an evening/weekend tie than for business formal though. But depends on your line of work.

I like them in wool and think they look good with tweedy blazers and suits on less formal days at work.

I have one in clan McQueen. It looks perfect with my Harris tweed jacket and a square bottomed notched lapel waistcoat.

As long as it's not an exact match to your kilt.

Not too keen on the colours in that particular one, but something in a more subdued tartan would be nice, like a Blackwatch or similar.

Depends on your line, of course. But I wear them to work and picked up a couple new ones recently:

I have four tartan ties--all of them in wool--and I wear them to work with tweed jackets...but then I work in an office that is casual to the point of slobbinesss.
