What are you eating for Thanksgiving (2009)?

We agreed that there's no point in doing turkey because we both hate it, so my wife is roasting a pork shoulder. Sides: candied yams, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and stuffing from a box. For dessert, we're having an apple pie and bread pudding (the creamy, gushy kind). There may or may not be a pumpkin pie.

What are you having?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Pretty much what is described above except the main courses will be the traditional Turkey and Ham.

Problem is that I have commitments to go to 3 places.

What are the chances that I won't overeat?

Slim to none and slim is riding out of town as I type

Itinerary:

Breakfast will be at Lola, which means croissants, and many drinks from the bar.

Lunch will be french toast made from a chocolate and orange zest brioche bread.

Dinner will be traditional turkey fare at some restaurant that I've never been to before.

We hate turkey, too, so we're having cornish hens for just the two of us tomorrow.

My girlfriend likes cooking in general but particularly enjoys cooking Indian food, so we're having friends over for Indian and drinks on Saturday evening.

Are you doing this alone?

Initiallly we wanted to just order some pizza and have cheesecake chimichangas to make it simple, but some of our invited guests were more for the idea of cooking, so I'm afraid we're accepting a semi-traditional meal. I say semi because we're actually going to eat prime rib.

We're holding fast to the cheesecake chimis, though...

Pretty traditional. . . turkey, stuffing, fresh bread, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, salad, soup, and pumpkin pie. The pie is the only thing I bought in. Everything else is made from scratch. Spent all day today making stock, baking bread, making soup, etc.

Chinese-Italian fusion cuisine is woefully underrated.

My mother just dripped a stick of butter over the turkey and put it in the oven at 300 degrees.

My wife is allergic to poultry so I am roasting a 6lb. (trimmed) whole tenderloin. Sides include a green bean-walnut-mushroom & cream-fried onion topped cassarole, whole cranberry ginger relish. Italian cream cake for dessert, since it is our anniversary weekend, too.
