Need good tires for my car............

So my car has been shaking like crazy, I took it to the dealer to balance it and they told me that they tried but the tires are the issue (is this BS?). Anyway, the car (audi) came with Pirelli's, they sucked big time. Honestly, forgot what I have on it now, yokohama maybe?, anyway need something good, low profile, I think 40 or so and 19 inches.

Have you looked at Tire Rack? Enter your car model and year, and they'll show you every commonly available tire choice for it. Their prices are pretty good, too, and they drop ship to your tire place for installation.

Tires can cause vibration as can out-of-round wheels.

I'd take it to the tire shop and have them spin balance the wheels. If they balance okay then the dealer is BSing you. If not, you'll already be there to buy some tires I guess.

I just put Bridgestone Potenza 760's on my 325, and they are great. They're summer tires, not sure if you need AS or not, but these are great and a heck of a lot less than Michelin PS2's. (which are the benchmark performance tire.

Potenzas seem to be the put on a forget about it tire.

If you let a tire get to bad the tread can wear unevenly and cannot really be fixed.

I run performance summer tires year round myself. I just can't drive in really bad weather.

With 19" wheels and low profile tires your shaking problem is likely caused by a bent wheel. If the dent is minor it may be possible to balance the wheel to compensate. If not, you have to get a new wheel. A damaged tire, especially one with little thread left, could cause some vibration at higher speeds but I would put my money on one of the damaged front wheels being the problem. If you switch the front wheels/tires with the back ones the vibration should be less noticeable. Is this for the '04 A6 2.7T? I didn't think it came with 19" from the factory unless you bought aftermarket or RS6 wheels or something. You sure they aren't 18", since the 18" take 235/40 tires ? How many miles do you have on your current tires?

I've tried a number of different tires between the Jag, the two Pontiacs, and the M Roadster. Three of those four cars now wear the same, totally awesome tire: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. The treadwear is good provided you keep them at an appropriate pressure, but the grip and the feedback are incredible. I can't afford less. ~ H

I am sure Fourtitude Vortex will have specialty forums for such problems.
But shaking could be due to any other rotating part, such as wheel bearings.

yep thats it. not sure of the size, probably 18's, will check. Can the dealer be so incompetent as to miss a bent wheel I can't remember what the service girl said exactly but she mentioned they could not balance it due to either wheels or tires being aftermarket. The wheels are audi and I would think they would know that and the tires are not OEM but can't see how that matters as they are the same size as OEM.

Michelin always. Pirelli's work well on dry pavement as the rubber is quite soft, but the downside is the life is cut in half.

Audi's come with the worst tires. My A4 (luckily, i no longer own) came with Continentals, I had 3 flat tires in the course of a year.

My Audi (A4 1.8T) runs on Pirelli's and I've never had an issue with them whatsoever. If you're having an issue with your steering wheel shuddering/shaking while braking your rotors aren't cut correctly, if the shaking/shuddering happens while not braking it's an issue with the wheel. Take the car to an independent shop if the dealer (for some unknown reason) isn't capable of balancing the wheels for you.
