Sure, I own several pairs of Alden as well, and I think the KW shoe is a step above those. My Aldens are more on the casual side (suede chukkas, Indy boots, cordovan wingtip boots), and the styling of the KW is very different. If you want a dressy shoe, the KW is much better than anything Alden offers IMO, in terms of construction and definitely in styling. I like Alden primarily for their cordovan and suede offerings, but I don't think their more formal shoes are anything to get excited about.
I haven't owned any C&J, but I have tried some on in-store, and I think the KW is at least as good as their benchgrades, but I can't compare to their handgrades as I don't have much experience with those. I haven't tried anything higher tier than that, so I won't be able to provide any comparison to the uber-high end brands like EG, G&G or JL....but, at a price point of $350, I don't think Kent's benchgrade line is really trying to compete with those guys.
