Who makes the wallets at the 45RPM store in New York?

I was in the 45 rpm store about 3 weeks ago (the SoHo one) and they had some wallets made out of some of the most beautiful leather I've ever seen. It didn't look like it was a house brand - I think there was a small logo on it, and it was being sold up by the counter with a bunch of other non-45 rpm items like jewelry.

Do any of you know what I'm talking about or who makes the wallets?

May be Red Moon (www.redmoon.co.jp). Yes, they make incredible wallets. Also incredibly expensive (although a bargain compared to designer wallets which are as, if not more, expensive, and are often of dubious quality to boot.)

Don't I feel dumb. I've been seeing that name all over these boards for the past few weeks but never thought to check.

Still, after looking at their site, I'm not seeing the wallet I remember. It's a different shape than anything Red Moon offers and it was worn in leather. Do they source it special for 45 rpm?

Red Moon definitely looks nice.

I think 45rpm carries leather goods made by Henry Cuir, not sure if they make wallets, but I would assume so.

Crap, you're right, some of that leather is amazing, even in pictures.

I'd like to see a shootout b/w H. Cuir, Wild Swans, and Red Moon.

All these brands seem like they have heirloom quality and I'm sure it just comes down to personal preferance.

At the same time, I didn't think the H. Cuir was worth 4 dollars for such a simple wallet (the merlin), although if I couldn't get something better from Japan, I might consider it.

i was not very impressed with the 45 rpm wallets. for that price, i would definitely get a wild swans wallet.

I agree with mizanation. You couldn't judge until you've held one in your hand and the leather looks really nice, but what are they doing that someone else isn't doing? It all looks kind of trite.

Again, I've never even seen one in real life so my opinion doesn't really count. I just don't like the look.

I almost called 45rpm to buy a pair of shoes for my girlfriend, but then realized that 60,000 yen is closer to $600, not $60.

i was hesitant to pick up 45rpm stuff when i lived in japan, but after seeing the prices in the soho store, or new york for that matter, tokyo prices seem like absolute bargains.
