ps3 worth buying? What are the best games for it?

I bought a ps2 just so that I could play final fantasy. I don't play too many games anymore, but it might be fun on a huge screen. What really cool games are out for the ps3? Basically, I'm still trying to weigh getting an Oppo or a ps3 for blu-ray.

That really depends on what kind of games you like. In terms of what's generally agreed upon, the "best" games on PS3 are Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Grand Theft Auto 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1, Modern Warfafe 2, Street Fighter 4, Metal Gear Solid 4.. hell I'm basically just copying from http://www.metacritic.com/games/ps3/ My favorite games are Little Big Planet (platformer), Siren: Blood Curse (horror game), Bayonetta (action game), Demon's Souls (RPG). FIFA 10 is very, very good if you're into soccer games. Considering what you get for your money, I'd definitely recommend buying a PS3 over a general BluRay player.

I always loved the FIFA series. Obviously I love FF and am looking forward to FF 13. I love racing games too. I've never been huge on FPS for consoles though.

If you liked the FIFA series before (I personally never did until 09), you'll really enjoy 10. It's so much better than the older ones it's like an entirely new franchise.

this is true. Fifa revived the series with their newest installments. They used to be inferior to the WE series (PES) but they have now surpassed them greatly.

No, hence the thread. The Oppo is $200 more but probably has better analog outs (which I will need till next year when I buy new electronics), is quieter during operation, has better upscaling of DVDs and video processing in general, and it gives me SACD and DVD-audio. if FF 13 was the only game i was going to play I could just rent it for a week or whatever.

If you're hell bent on miniscule difference in video quality, buy both. If you're only to choose one, and given that you obviously have an interest in gaming, I don't see how you could justify a dedicated player over the PS3.

yeah. xbox isn't in the running. The only reason i'm looking at any console is because I want a blu-ray player and the ps3 has that. I've always been a pc gamer with the exception of the FF series.

don't you have a blu ray player on its own? From the way you were talking about them in the other thread, I thought you owned one.

No. I ordered some BR movies in anticipation of the imminent purchase of a BR player. I was still debating which player though. I think i'm going to go with the ps3. When I upgrade to a new pre/pro after I find a job, it will have some serious video processing and I suppose I can live with less than perfect in the meantime. I guess that would also be the time to buy an oppo if the ps3 is pissing me off for whatever reason, or if I decide that I really want to start investing in SACDs.

No. I just use it as a secondary DVD player (it loses out to a dirt-cheap player that has been brilliant at playing all the obscure DVDs that I have gotten my hands on in the last 7 years). I don't even watch Blu-Ray. Nothing beats the Wii with all their homage titles and homebrew if you are a nostalgic gamer.
