Red hair is anti-style?

A random thought:
Might red hair lead to general aversion of style? After all, it often leads to teasing, and people who are ostracized tend to not bother competing on, for example, appearance. Besides, there seem to have been very few pictures of red-headed members of this or similar forums. Edit: there is also a lack of famous stylish red-headed men.

Now for the much-loved/hated poll...

I have speckles of red hair in my beard and in the summer, when I had it, on my head. I love the specs of color...its like a nice Donegal Tweed for my face!

I disagree with your logic. Surely, most of the posters on this forum are teased and ostracized on a daily basis, and yet several posters on this forum are really quite stylish. And those who are not stylish surely cannot be criticized for a want of trying.

Most red-haired people are kind of goofy looking despite their hair color- but there are a few who have well-structured faces and the red hair acts as a sort of youthful jauntiness. More often than not though, the Anglo-Saxon has a primeval aversion to red hair, as it indicates Celtic roots, and, heaven-forbid, Catholicism. If you live in totally black haired societies long enough though, like in Asia or the Middle East, you come to appreciate it's uniqueness, and genetic reports that it will be bred out of the human race in a few centuries become disturbing.

That is truly moronic.

Believe it or not it's citable. Only problem with it is that it focuses on a linear disappearance of the gene, rather than accounting for the fact that the last hundred red heads are likely to mosh-fuck each other trying to save their race.

It's a recessive gene. It might not manifest itself and redheads will become increasingly rare as time goes on, but that's only in comparison to other dominant-gene-dependent hair colors becoming more prominent. The same could be said for blue eyes, blonde hair, or attached earlobes.

So it's not moronic is it?

There might be a slight, actual tendency for red-headed males to be less physically attractive in other ways, because red hair is recessive and therefore might be almost in-bred in some cases.

However, as Mick Hucknall (once a decent-looking man) complains, it seems to have a reverse halo effect. Things like that are mentioned below.

It's interesting - red hair doesn't seem underrepresented in the poll, but the sample size probably never will be large enough. In the entertainment world, red-headed men aren't rare, but that's likely the outcast effect (with performers often citing alienation in their youth). In business, politics, and on the street, they seem less common than they actually are. The possibility that red-heads are more likely to shave it off or otherwise cloak the color probably is true.

It is moronic, because it implies that when the gene isn't manifested that it ceases to exist. It's not true. The possibility of extinction due to a phenotypical lack of relative frequency in a population is erroneous.
