Cost for stitching repairs?

I just picked up a fabulous navy Oxxford coat from ebay for a whopping $27, and the fit is perfect. Unfortunately, lots of the stitching is coming apart. Both of the armpits have an inch of seam coming apart, and the sitching is coming undone at the vent. On the inside, probably 15-20 inches (total) of the lining is undone in different spots. I am going to take it to a tailor to have it sewn up. Does anyone have a ballpark idea what it might cost? I have no idea, and I wanted to know a range before I go in.

Also, anyone have a recommendation for a tailor in Westchester county, NY?

I'm guessing it may run you around $30.

For minor hand stitching you may want to try a dressmaker, they will be do as good of a job and may be a bit cheaper. I seem to recall that there was a good dressmaker in Katonah.

Note: You could always try your hand at a little needlework. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I thought about that, and I do on other garments, I was just afraid to mess up my first Oxxford. Maybe I should do it anyway.

If it's all inside(the jacket) work, give it a shot. In any event, any mistake that you may make is easily rectifiable.

Looking at it again, I think I need to take it to a tailor. If it wasn't for the armpit (exterior), I'd do it myself, but it looks like I need to remove lining to get access. I really don't want to do that.

Good idea. Even if sewing runs you $50-$75, the jacket's a steal if it's in good condition otherwise. When you say 'coat', do you mean 'overcoat'? or 'sportcoat'? Either way, $27? Damn.
