Precious (at a theatre near your) - Page 2

I wouldnt want to watch a movie about an ugly, fat, dumb white chick; why would I want to watch a movie about an ugly, fat, dumb, black chick?

This crap is about as stupid as that Harvey Milk movie. Being a minority in any regard isn't inherently interesting. I really don't get the appeal of these movies. Who the hell cares if you are black or gay so long as you have not done anything interesting, groundbreaking or worthy of having a movie made about you. if precious split the atom or created alternative fuel sources maybe i'd give it a look.

i cant go to movies where lots of young black people are. all they do is yell before everything is going to happen, laugh for 8 hours after the scene is over and scream stupid shit at the screen.

"You need to get out of the balcony and sit downstairs with the white people"

circa 1957

i mean, you don't even have to think that this is a good movie, but your basis for not wanting to see it is rather puzzling, in that that kind of thinking could be applied broadly to almost any film of value.

+many

I'm speaking out of turn not having seen this movie, but it looks like garbage to me, having read about it and obviously seeing the trailer, not that means much.

I'd say two things about myself as a real lover of film. I am extremely cynical about films with a wide release, and I will also say that I watch a lot of movies.

Precious is quite honestly, in my opinion, a worthwhile movie to see. In movies I care a lot about acting and the acting in this movie is really stellar. The fat black girl is a knockout. She'll probably struggle in anything that doesn't feature her dark skin and considerable girth because ones appearance ultimately modifies what parts you can play, but there are a few scenes in that film that if you are not affected by her performance I'd seriously question whether or not you have a pulse.

This isn't a typical sob story film or even one that resolves every problem or issue. The way it unfolds is probably more true to life than you'll often see in hollywood and the film most often avoids the usual pitfalls of these type of tragic stories. I think people are judging it too harshly without having seen in, and I really do believe that if you love good acting and sincere story telling, you are certainly the poorer for not seeing it.

i am as cynical as they come but this is one of the most powerful american films i have seen in years. while the hurt locker was great as entertainment, i forgot about it 10 minutes later. not this film though.
