Chia Seed - Superfood?

Does anyone here regularly consume the Mexican Chia Seed?

I am halfway through reading 'Born To Run' by Christopher McDougall and in this rather entertaining book, he talks briefly about a super seed grown in Mexico called 'Chia'. A long lost tribe of super Athletes he goes looking for in the book; make a drink out of this seed with water, sugar and lime juice called 'Chia Fresca'. The seed is meant to be extremely high in Omega 3s and 6s, Calcium, Caffeine and other stuff and is a staple of this super tribe.

One of my concerns with all of these super foods is that they usually do not tell you that you need to eat a ton of the stuff before it has any measurable benefit.

Interested in thoughts or experiences. Let me know what you think

Also interested in any recipees and technique for the Chia Fresca beyond what I stated above.

I've chewed on a few seeds but didn't feel any magic. That's probably a good thing coming from a agricultural product of South America. Here's the best use of Chia seeds that I've ever seen:

I drink a glass of them every morning. A tablespoon of seeds in a glass of water, leave it overnight, drink inthe morning. Texture is similar to frogs eggs, but you get used to it. Easy energy.

I don't think it's necessary to eat mass quantities of certain "superfoods" to notice benefits (though I do think that "superfood" has become just another marketing term like "organic," but that can be another discussion).

For me, just a few drops of marine phytoplankton are much better than coffee; a few raw cacao beans (mixed for some sweetness if you'd like, with inca or goji berries) give me the benefits of chocolate without the drawbacks of refined sugar.

Been seeing a decent amount of press on chia / chia fresca. Any one else dig it?
