What Did You Do Today At Work (WDYDTAW)

For every entry, list a general title/description of your job (Teach, College Professor, Bigtimer), location (Omaha, Kabul, DC, 'Merica). Just for context.

Work: Stylish Beaurocrat
Location: Capitol of Democracy

Work: Came in around 8:30, drank tea and ate two glazed donuts. I immediately check my email and to my shock someone I do research on got a promotion (great, so now I have to figure their replacement and the new structure of their polical system). Browsed my normal websites (Autosport.com, Random policy work-related websites, Slate, Realclearpolitics, Nigerian Guardian newspaper, a few blogs). About 10am started drafting this analysis paper. Then right before lunch I got sidetracked by RL.com and Jcrew.com. I start to debate what, if anything I should buy. Right after 12, I warm my lunch up. While waiting I print out my credit card statements so I can tally my spending for the past few months (I don't do budgets just track spending). Tally up statements. Call Jcrew to place an order. All that work done and instead of going back to my paper I think up this thread.

Don't mind my lazy day friday, I actually do work. This could be a fun one...

JOB: Academic administrator
LOCATION: you can figure it out

It's Friday, so I showed up and got my coffee ready for a big day. I answered my emails, which consisted mainly of my immediate supervisor - who's on maternity leave - bugging me to do things I did three days ago. "That's done." "That's done." "Did that yesterday." (Holy shit, she just emailed me again. Goddammit!) I go to nhl.com and all the college hockey web sites, as well as homebrewtalk.com and, of course, SF. I do some research on Orval bacause they have a beautiful abbey and I'd like to incorporate some of the beer's characteristics into a new beer of my own (I'm using malted and flaked rye in mine, but no brettanomyces because I don't have the patience). Spend thirty minutes or so finishing some work as quickly as I can so I can get back to fucking around. I chat with my ISA (international student advisor) about what to expect from students of certain nationalities; the conversation drifts off into this crazy Japanese chick who used to study here. Good times were had by all. Lunch time comes and goes, and I devour my chili because I'm a big, hungry man (gotta lift today). More work, because the internets begin to displease me if I stay on too long. And now I'm here, sipping more coffee.

Thank you for joining me after the commercial break. So I left the office, paid my water bill, and came back. Polished off the last of the coffee. Looked at a little porn, but didn't see anything too terribly special. Read a lot about the late, lamented Thomas Hardy's ale (let's keep our fingers crossed on that one, boys!). Tried to contact some important people for an important project but just left messages and nobody's called me back, which is hardly surprising considering these are university types and it is Friday, after all. And now I'm posting this, counting down the minutes until I lock up.

Work: Contract Attorney Location: The District I didn't work today. Just finished a project yesterday, and the next one starts Monday, so this weekend is mine -- all mine. Woke up at 3pm. Went and had a spectacular fish taco meal at a local upscale Mexican joint. Then to a local bike shop to check out a potential addition to my single-bike collection. There were some interesting ones, but I'm trying to be disciplined about this because we clearly don't have enough space in our apartment for 3 bikes. On the way back, bought a case of Sam Adams Harvest Collection for myself for tonight/this weekend, Blue Moon for the gf, and Michelob for her dad when her parents come to visit next week. Now, I'm browsing WUS and I've just PM'd a guy about a G-Shock I've been thinking about. Oops...I totally derailed this threak.

Basically. Thankfully they were essentially form letters that only needed minor editing.

Job: Lawyer
Location: Jersey

Earlier in the day I went to court to argue a discovery motion on an employment termination case. After court, I came to the office and wrote a settlement letter to counsel for a certain television programming provider alleging that my client, a bar, was wrongfully showing football games to customers without permission. I basically offered a nuisance value settlement and told them to go fuck themselves. I then did some research on a DUI case I have coming up for trial. Then I went home and ate dinner. Then I came back to the office to draft a complaint for an adversary proceeding I need to file in bankruptcy court. Now I'm waiting for a client who was supposed to show up between 8:00 and 9:00 p.m., but I get a funny feeling that they're not going to show. In about 20 minutes or so, I plan on going home.
