Where to buy unique food?

I've watched too many Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern episodes saying to myself, "I want to try that". Does anyone know of any websites where you can buy out of the ordinary foods that are not easy to find in local stores? I found a website in Thailand to get insects like scorpions, beetles, ants, etc. but standard shipping is like 3-6 weeks. Basically, any insect except for certain worms I'd like to try, anything out of the ocean, just about any animal and any part of the animal, and different fruits and veggies. Long story short...anything I haven't yet tried. I'd like to go on a unique food spree but haven't found any websites to do so at.

Just go to China Town. Those fools will sell you anything.

Good idea. I'm going to put this on the agenda and make a day of it.

Going to Thailand is perhaps the best choice. It's hard to imagine, but I've found the menus of Western countries are actually very limited in the full spectrum of tastes humans are capable of. I would posit that you could find a culinary history and diversity greater than that of the entirety of Italy in just one province of China. It is absolutely dizzying the amount of strange and unique foods out there. Scorpions are just for beginners.

This kind of reminds me of an article just in GQ about fedex'ing food from different places around the world. I know it might seem like its a glib answer, but the truth is that part of the experience of eating certain things is too connected to a place, plus you miss out on the fun of traveling.

Dine out more, try new cuisines, don't just hit up Chinatown but other ethnic areas/restaurants where you're bound to get all different cuts of meat and offal. If not already, I'd check out a site like chowhound for your area and mine the "foodies" for good recommendations on unique dishes in your area.

Restaurant suppliers (local markets and bigger entities like Restaurant Depot).

I second the travel option.

There's plenty of mail order companies selling exotic meats and food here in the US that far exceed the selection at even some of the best markets. This is of course you have deep pockets...
