Rye/Bourbon >>>>> Scotch.

Maybe I'm just not man enough for peat and all that, but whatever. Gimme a good rye/bourbon over that any day.

You made a correct statement in there somewhere. Ironically, I'm drinking an Islay single malt right now with way too much peat.

Well, it's kinda like saying "Maybe I'm not man enough to enjoy moss instead of a nice charred steak, but whatever" suit yourself.

Well...you do know that there are Scotches that barely have any peatiness at all, right?

But, whatever.

I know. I've tried plenty, anything from blends to really nice single malts from all over the place. Never spoke to me the same way even a cheapish bottle of bourbon/rye does.

It all comes down to taste, maybe you have difficulty tasting complex flavors and like the taste of char?

McClelland's Islay single malt. Saw it at a shop on the way home from work and thought "what the hell." It was cheap and looked promising. I did get a bottle of Jameson, just in case.

I think I'll crack that Jameson bottle next.

If you want a better cheap Islay (although not a single malt) check out Islay Mist. It should run $15 - 20 and its surprisingly good. A little to grainy for me, but I'll freely admit that I'm kind of a scotch snob perhaps unfairly disparaging towards malts.

I'll keep an eye out for that. Thanks.
