4 day summer vacation--where to? - Page 2

I'll be in Montreal in July, it's for work, but that would absolutely have been my first choice. Second choice Chicago, third Toronto (I also find it a bit blah, except for the cool Indian radio stations).

There's a Best Western in downtown Chicago that's not that expensive, friends of mine stayed there.

Chicago is great, but the summer weather is harsh. We always enjoy Toronto. Too bad Montreal is off the list. I'd forget about Pittsburgh.

We are taking a four day break in the Berkshires. Haven't been to MassMoca yet and am really looking forward to it. Plus the area is just so beautiful in the summer.

actually, if montreal were on the list, I would vote montreal. great food, great jazz. most importantly, the city really makes you feel like you are someplace foreign, it is great for a short vacation.

Montreal and Chicago are great recommendations. Neither clearly wins over the other but I feel I must ask you not to choose Pittsburgh over any of them.

Okay so Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal--no one said that was off the list! However, any place south of DC is def off the list. We would like to avoid hot weather but realize that even Chicago and Toronto will be warm and maybe humid.

Turns out we can use miles to fly to Chicago or Toronto for free. Haven't checked Montreal. So that cuts the cost way down. I think we're leaning to Chicago. Well, I am anyway. It has a lot going on. And they have architectural tours that sound cool. And since it's in our pool of potential places to move, we should probably check it out. [Btw, Pittsburgh was in there for the Warhol Museum, FLW houses and other interesting architecture, and because we've never been but heard good things.]

For Toronto I'm surprised no one mentioned the Bata Shoe Museum. A shoe museum people--come on!

Add another vote for Chicago. Try to fly into Midway instead of O'Hare if possible. Use the airfare savings for a hotel on the Magnificient Mile.

For what its worth, I think Falling Water is a bit of a drive from Pittsburgh, and I've been to the Warhol Museum. Good museum, but you'll have access to much more in Chicago. If its Wright you want to see go to Oak Park and you can also go through Robie House. and if you go be sure to get a "Char - dog" great hotdogs!

I'm biased, but Toronto is an awesome city. However, July/August is hot and very humid (last summer it was 40+ degrees). At times though it can be a bit blah. I haven't been to Montreal yet but I've literally never heard anything bad about it. Everyone always tells me it's like being in Europe without the 9 hour flight. PM if you would like some hotel/restaurant/attraction rec's for Toronto.

The Detroit area is wonderful, both the city and surrounding area. It has its own gritty charm and, though it struggles against immense problems, it's the genuine article.
