To quote Flaubert, "What a scholar one might be if one knew well only some half a dozen books."

Now that is an interesting idea.... time for a new thread.

I just got The Picture of Dorian Gray on my iPhone via Eucalyptus+Gutenberg. I hope it's good. More importantly, I hope I can stand reading it on the iPhone.

I was actually going to start a thread about the Tarzan books, but now I don't have to. I read all the books, 30 something, at the same time as my father. He would read one first and leave it outside his door for me. We had great times talking about the books and really brought us closer, it is one of my favorite memories from my youth.

We still trade books, though he reads at a much faster clip than I am able to at this point.
Pro tip: Skip the chapters on different types of harpoons, etc. Makes it a real quick read

+1. I would have liked to see One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch included. That was a great read.

To quote Hemingway, "anyone who says, 'to quote Flaubert' gets punched in the nose."

It's a boring read at first, but it'd grow on you.

Alright, went back - read 42 or 43, depending on how you coutn the Iliad.

Not bad for my age, I guess. I read most of the good ones, anyways.

Only 33 for me. I don't know whether that makes me un-manly, ill-educated or un-American. Maybe all three.
