Second Life for a Suit

I am not sure if this thread belongs on this forum, but I guess that those who are interested in clothes and tailoring will appreciate this DIY project: turning a suit into a coat for a (my) little girl. Some of you might have seen this already on Sator's The Cutter and Tailor forum.
My girlfriend (not a professional tailor) is the maker of this coat for our daughter. I took the pictures, wrote the text (including errors"”feel free to correct those), was responsible for the dissection (destruction) of the suit, and helped pick lining, buttons and other details.

I hope you will enjoy it.

I was curious what the inside would look like. Well, fusing:

Forgive me for the slaughtering of the suit. I really tried to do a clean job, but my lack of patience and especially skills resulted in this:
(Side question: how does one remove a lining in a clean and fast way?)

After the dissection. In the front, the fabric to be reused for the coat, in the back, the 'remains':

End of destruction phase, time for something new

Fabric and lining (cotton shirting generously donated by my shirt maker, and bemberg for the sleeves):

Depends on whether the pink-stitching is done by hand or by machine.

Er... machine, I'm afraid.

This is a great idea.

Let's see a picture of the finished product.

Very, very cool idea. As the owner of more than a few old suits SF has made me ashamed to wear further, and the proud new driver of a little baby girl, I am especially interested to see how this turns out.

How "green" of you!

BTW - the sleeves look a little long for me.

But you know you're digging the drape.

Very cool. Careful not to extend the shoulders too much and create divots.
