Count me completely confused. You think a service with which you were previously unfamiliar is suddenly "absurd" and "highway robbery" because it's $10 more than a price you pulled from thin air.

"Hey, I want to fly to Hawaii in a Harrier jet."
"That'll be $5000."
"What???? I guestimated it to only cost me $3000! How do you look at yourself in the mirror, scoundrel?"

$20-25 is the going rate at any place in the US I know. It's mainly because of the relative "rarity" of the machine/procedure coupled with the what could be considered "expensive" nature of the niche, essentially supply vs. demand. You might be happy to know that several businesses actually provide the service free when you buy from them.

For what it's worth, off all the advice I've given on here over the years not once have I recommended someone to go out of their way to have the service done. Frankly, I find it unnecessary, if not a bit OCD, for someone to "need" to have the hem finished EXACTLY as it was originally. People incessantly regurgitate and recycle the pros of chainstitching, and to each their own, but $25+ isn't going to make my $300 jeans wear any better just as the type of hem my jeans have will not keep me up at night.

But to advocate the service on such cheap jeans to begin with makes as much sense as your imaginary price gouging.

tl;dr: Srsly, bro?

Take your jeans to an alterations place and ask them to replicate the chain stitch. They can do it for like $20.

A lot of places won't be able to do it, but you may find one. If you were to get a chainstitch, go with the pros. Otherwise, might as well get a regular hem.

I wore my jeans for three days and already had fades and a bit of roping. Then I got it hemmed, REGULAR, not chainstitched. Looks the same and I still have some roping. Even if I didn't, I wouldn't really care.

I agree with whodini tho, they are bargain-priced jeans. No need to spend that much on them. You might as well buy a pair from Self Edge and get free alternation w/chainstitch.

I've been able to find equivalents for the tapered, but if i wear a 30 waist in 511's, should I go for 29 or 30 in the Unbranded Skinny?

Any help is much appreciated.

After a few months of wear, the waist stretched a bit for me. I got the same size as my Levi's and they're a tad big. The thing with these for me is that the waist could be smaller but then it'd be too tight in the thighs.

I'd say get the 30's. You can also return/exchange.

For anyone in the area, Tate + Yoko in Montreal will also chain-stitch any jeans for $25.

was looking to get a pair of jeans that were a bit slimmer than my APC NS and LVC 505...someone suggested NF skinny guy which looked like they mostly fit the criteria of what i was looking so i figured i'd just give the unbranded skinny a shot since they're about half the price
