No, never got into it. I dont' think I even could now, since I never watched enough to truly follow/understand the storylines.

I'd agree with the last part, particularly in terms of character development and making me invested in the story. However, Lost has had 5 full seasons, so the comparision is a little unfair and it still remains to be seen if the series will really payoff in the end.

The original prisoner had little explanation itself, so it's not really that surprising. I didn't really feel satisfied with the explanation they gave (in the new series), I'd prefer something more material and I didn't like how six reacted at the end.

Didn't see it yet, but I hear it was pretty poorly done.
