Microfiber dress socks - your experience?

My feet sweat a lot, so I've been looking to replace my cotton dress socks. I know wool does the job well, but microfiber socks seem much more readily available, especially where I live. They are also less expensive.

I have several synthetic athletic shirts and they do a fine job of wicking away sweat, plus they're very hard wearing. Can I expect the same performance from socks?

If anyone has any experience with microfiber socks, can you share? Thanks.

No one in SF has any experience with microfiber socks? Really?

Sometimes microfiber socks feel too thick to be particularly breathable.

Have you tried Viccel socks? Though cotton, they seem to be particularly excellent.

Would you say the breathability is worse than wool socks then?
Probably. The only way for you to be reasonably sure is to buy a few pairs and compare.

I used to own a few pairs. Not worth it, get Wool, cotton, or silk. And yes, breatheability is much worse than natural fibers.

Silk probably isn't durable enough. Certainly not thin silk.

^... First, I own silk socks, have owned them for some time, and they have held up just as well, through machine washing no less, than my cotton and wool blend socks. They are also much, much better at wicking away moisture. Second, silk is a very durable material. Per fiber used, silk is one of the most durable materials there is. This is part of why it was used for parachute materials. Also, it doesn't cost all that much to try a pair here: http://www.wintersilks.com/viewprodu...+trouser+socks Oh, and for those with really sweaty feet, I have seen linen socks now and again...

Synthetic ? himm I dont think I would let them touch my skin.

Viccel socks represent excellent VFM, with customer service to match. I would give them a try.

Winter Silks socks might be comparable in durability to the other natural fabrics, but they are mid-weight. Many pure silk socks are lightweight.

Are your shoes too tight? Are your laces too tightly done? Do you wear shoes with synthetic linings? These can also lead to foot suffocation causing unnecessary sweating. As for micro-fibre or any other synthetic materials for socks, I avoid them altogether.
