Shopping in Bologna

Hello there,

this weekend i am going to bologna. has anyone here any "insidertips"? i don´t have anything particular in mind, just anything related with clothing?

around the main square of the town, piazza major - are a half dozen very nice tailor, shirt maker and tie stores. on the corner of the street that comes from the train station leading to the main square via independence, is a tailor shop with some of the nicest fabrics I have every seen in my life. on the same street, going towards the train station, are a half dozen very nice clothes and shoes stores.

there is also a great hat store - also in the main square, mostly with borsolinos.

I very much recomend one good meal at resteraunt dianne, on via independence, one of the best places in town. here's what you have - mixed cured meats (make sure that you have mortadella), tortolleni in broth, mixed boiled meats, homemade vanilla icecream.

while you are in town, buy some tortolini to take home.

well, nothing in particular on my mind, besides some nice silk or linen pocket squares...

and what the heck is the oscar mayer museum, something related with turkeys????

a joke. mortadella, a fanstasic preserved meat, has been called balony in america, and is manufactured by the oscar mayer company. mortadella in bologna is fantastic, a totally different thing

the first time I was in Bologna, about 10 years ago, I went with this customer to a nice resterount - actually the dianna place I suggested. this guy was really serious, maybe 60, and had a big belly on him, so I am figuring that I am in for a really nice meal. he raves on an on about having soemthing special for me to try, and I see that some of the people at a table near me are eating what looks like really good ham, so I figure that is what I am getting. then he gives me a plate of what looks like baloney, I couldn't help laughing. but boy, was that good.

visit "Dante De Paz" in via ugo bassi and "monsieur" in via d'angelo
for bespoke shoes ask for "paltrinieri's", stefano branchini (via strada maggiore), peron-peron and sutor mantellassi's 2 strores(via indipendenza and galleria cavour)
have your first martini at "calice" bar and your second at "l'indie"...I'll be there too

De Paz is must. Zinelli on via Castiglione is very good for shirt fabrics and then on via d'Azeglio there is a store called New Dandy which has some interesting things. Don't bother with the shirtmaker on the corner of Piazza Maggiore and via d'Azeglio, it is no good.
