help with hairstyle

My hair in the pic is about 3" long on the top sides and back are about 1.5", and i generally like the length but as it grows this long, theres to much mass and my hair gets too bulky. I usually have to wash my hair first then style, and if i get a haircut theres too little hair to style and it looks flat. I was thinking of telling my barber to remove .5" and add layers to the top?? any ideas??

Personally, I'd get it cut short/medium, and clean the edges for a sharper look. I would imagine that you can do more to style shorter hair than you can with that hairball.

Kind of like this:

(Just don't give people that look )

If not that, then something shorter, like your classic Mr Brightside look.

have you thought about shaving it completely to about a 2 or 3 clip?

.5 and add layers to the top would be fine, but do cut it shorter (but not too much).
