world cup - Page 46

Zidane is the best player in this tournament. If he leads France to victory, he will definitely have to be mentioned in the same breath with Platini.

I have to say that I'm cheering for Zidane, but will be happy for Romafan and Manicturncoat as well as the other Italy supporters if the Italian defense continues to prove unbreakable.

Would also like to see Germany finish strong and reward the support their fans have given them.

Well obviously I disagree and if you think Messi was player of the tournament after barely playing you are sadly deluded.

the teams you see in the world cup are together for a very short time. there is a lot of individual talent, but there is no teamwork. no national team can hold a candle to a good professional team.

Again I disagree.Were Brazil 70,Netherlands 74-78,Germany 90 and Brazil 02 nervous and without cohesion.I dont think so.

to me, the performances of all the teams in the cup seemed disjointed and inconsistent. i did not see a team hit thier stride for more than 1 match. in some matches, the referee made the match into a farce. there were 2 or 3 matches that ended in a 9v9.

that said, where is David Trezeguet for france?

and why not play Inzaghi up instead of Toni?

still rather neutral on the final, but i think Italy have the better chance.

France played very well against spain, and even better against brazil. I agree the performace against portugal was less than stellar though, but again NO team played well against portugal.

On the bench
He may be playing against Italy though, because he knows them pretty well.

Stats: Italy has not beaten France in official matches since 1978.
Cohesion: let's hope the magic secret (no longer) sentence the French team players say before a match helps.
France-Portugal: it feels to me that the French team adapted its pace to that of Portugal in the second half, which made for a rather poor match.
Sides: I feel more against Italy than for France, if that makes any sense.

Wasn't that the same, though, when Italy played Germany--Italy hadn't beaten Germany in many many years? Maybe it was that Germany hadn't lost a match in Dortmund. Something like that, but either way, Italy broke the streak.

Oh yeah, not saying this proves anything, just stats. I'm not overly confident for Sunday. The Italians are probably seeking a revenge from the French victory at the euro 2000.

So, how is everybody planning to watch the match? What will you be wearing, who will be with you, where will you be, what will be served?
it was germany who never lost a game in dortmund (14 wins straight), and Italy who had never lost against germany in WC.

Ahh, when an irresistible force meets an immovable object. I guess the irresistible force won.

I will be watching the final most likely by myself at home--my only real football-loving friend is actually in Germany right now at an academic conference. I will serve myself something from the -wurst and -chip families.

I'm torn as to who I want to win. I would like to see Zidane go out on a high note, but feel Italy is playing better and deserve it. I'll just cheer for a good game, I guess.

Really? I think he has played well, but if he wasn't retiring I HIGHLY doubt people would be saying things like this. He has played solid in most games, but do you think he has stood out heads and shoulders above everyone else? He did have that GREAT goal against Spain.
