The only game in which Italy has impressed me was against Ukraine. They've tied against a worthless US side and barely scratched out a win against a German team whose offense was nonexistant for the entirety of the match. And the theatrics are simply disgusting. When you have the tralala American commentators ("He's great! They're great! I'm great! Tralala!") discussing how pathetic Italy's knack for the dive is, you know it's pretty bad. If the consolation game were Portugal vs. Italy I wouldn't watch out of disrespect. However, I'd like to see Germany beat Portugal so I'll be waving my banner high.

That said, I've been surprised by Italy's ability to adapt to the last couple of rounds that have been more permissive of contact. Portugal was not able to stop their diving ways, and suffered because of it.

^LOL

Am I the only one who think Henry embellished that goal box tackle? He got hit on the leg, felt it, realized where he was, and THEN went down like a pile of bricks.

Had he not went down that maybe would have been called, but probably not.

No. He's getting ready to kick (clear sight to the goal), the portugese defender holds his leg to make him fumble and prevent him from shooting, it's a clear penalty.

I think you've got a dog in the hunt here.

What games have you been watching? Did you see the Ghana or Czech games? Both the U.S. and Australia both played strong, 'above-their-ability' games against Italy. Germany had just beaten Argentina (one of the tournament's most impressive sides) and was playing in front of a stadium of their own fans... Do you think Italy has been more 'theatrical' than any other team?

Obviously! Jeez get with the program! Germany and France are the best teams!

I agree.Thierry "I will never dive,I hate cheats" Henry was also guilty of cheating when holding his face after being caught on the arm by Puyol.

It doesn't help that refs- even at this stage- do nothing most of the time about diving. I thought I read that they were TOLD to card when they saw diving in this WC- the hell if I've seen but a handful and there's generous diving in most every game. I don't get them going bonkers with cards on questionable hits/fouls at best and yet they refuse to yank them out for diving, instead motioning the player up

IIRC the last card given to a star player in the WC for diving was Rivaldo in 02. They simply aren't cracking down on it and it's maddening. I am a Christiano Ronaldo fan, but he is one of a growing # of newer players that make diving as big a part of their game as anything else, and it has just got to stop.

Bring on instant replay and red card players who dive- it WILL stop.

You people act like blind nationalists. When someone can't voice their opinion without getting attacked (there's a difference between voicing a counter-point and attacking someone), it's kind of ridiculous.

I definitely don't think Germany and France are the "best" (?) teams this tournmanet. Germany has a great coach with homefield momentum and France has barely been scraping by. However, I do think France is one of the top three most capable teams of the tournament (I think England had the most potential as they were well-rounded as hell, with Brazil a close second as they rely more on star power).

But yeah, I'm not sure how you can argue that Italy and Portugal don't take dives more than any other team. I love the country of Italy, and as Real Madrid is my favorite club with AS Roma being my second, I love Totti and Cassano (he got jipped), but seriously...if I see one more flamoyant fall followed by the grimace of someone who looks like they just got shot in the face I'm going to puke.

He could have gotten through the tackle, but you can also see that he would have lost a step or two on the ball and likely it would have been cleared by the next defender. IMO he gave up trying to make it to the ball and instead sell the contact.
